Sign-in texts: privacy disclosure

This page covers the phone number data used for the optional sign-in texts. See the consent disclosure for what the texts are and how to stop them.

What we keep

  • Your account email address.
  • The phone number you added, whether you agreed to texts, and whether the number is blocked at the carrier.
  • Delivery records: whether a text was requested and whether the provider accepted that request. These records show what our system did. They do not show whether your phone received the text.

What we do not keep

Our logs record at most the last four digits of a phone number. They never record codes or full phone numbers.

How we use the number

We use your phone number only to send the optional sign-in and phone-setup texts you asked for.

How often

We send a text only when you request a sign-in code or a phone-setup code. There is no regular schedule. Message and data rates may apply.

Who processes the data

We send your phone number and the code to Twilio, our messaging provider, so Twilio can deliver the text. Twilio processes this data to deliver messages.

We do not share, sell, or provide your mobile phone number or messaging consent data to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Carrier blocks

If a number is blocked at the carrier, we keep a record of the block so we do not keep trying to text that number.
